Friday, June 13, 2014 (Versailles and Paris, France)
This morning, we slept in a bit,
then Linda found a dinner cruise on the internet that sounded good, so we booked
it, skipped breakfast and drove directly back to Paris. We headed for the
Eiffel Tower area of the city again, found a pay lot right by the Army Museum
and parked for the day.
We walked for a while, had lunch at an outdoor café,
then resumed our walk and found a street fair.
After looking (but resisting the
urge to buy), we then ended up at the Eiffel Tower Park. This is a huge park,
(comparable to the Washington DC Mall) filled with people picnicking, playing,
and taking selfies with the tower in the background. We walked the length of the park and back
with Bill taking pictures from every conceivable angle,
...and then headed over to our cruise boat to embark for our dinner cruise. We had a wonderful window seat, and after sipping champagne
for a while, decided to step out on the stern for some pictures before the boat
departed.
There we met some other Americans taking pictures, who we offered to
help, and after talking with them for a short while learned that they were from
Ohio, Linda’s birthplace! What was I saying a while ago about “Small World”?
Made friends with couple next to us who were also
celebrating their anniversary, but only 17!
They were from California but were living in Casablanca for two years
for work. They invited us to come visit
and stay with them in their home.
...spectacular
views of Paris,
...and tens of thousands of Parisians picnicking all along the
Seine River.
As the French would say (I think) Trea Increadble’!!
It was
impossible to drink all of the wine that was included with the meal (although
Bill really tried!!), so we took the last bottle home to have with lunch the
next day. (By the way, wine is “de rigueur” with every meal except breakfast).
